The convergence of Russia and China is not a matter of recent weeks or months, but a years-long work on development of relations between the two countries, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists, commenting on an opinion that the relations between Moscow and Beijing have become closer recently.
"It is not a matter of recent weeks or months. It is a positive bilateral baggage, which we continue carrying. And it was created in the last few decades," he said.
The spokesman noted that Moscow views Beijing as a partner and an ally, "supports it in many ways and expects further development of these relations."
"This is not a recent convergence of Russia and China; it is a systematic development of relations that are indeed at a very high level; it is a strategic privileged partnership," Peskov said.
