Kudrin named Russia's biggest challenges

Head of the Civil Initiatives Committee, ex-Minister of Finance Alexei Kudrin told about the biggest challenges Russia is facing today.

According to him, those challenges are low standard of living and growing poverty. "The standard of living is falling for the third year in a row, which causes additional poverty. Poverty in our country is growing right now," he said.

"We had a pretty high level of poverty even before the crisis. It's embarassing to have this level of poverty in a country with such level of GDP and GDP per capita," Interfax quoted him as saying.

At the same time, he stressed that wages at some of the industrial enterprises in the Russian Federation are growing for the last six months.

In addition, head of the Civil Initiatives Committee said that his team has a recipe for raising standard of living and reducing poverty. "According to proposals that we are preparing, we can greatly reduce poverty at least in 5-6 years. I can see how this could be done," he concluded.
