Kurdish forces left without US-led coalition cover in Manbij

Kurdish forces in Syria were left without cover from the US-led coalition during an advance to liberate the city of Manbij from the Daesh jihadist group, a Kurdish militia source said.

The news follows reports of US warplanes, on a June 28 mission to capture Bukamal in Syria, being diverted to another target near Fallujah, Iraq, at a critical moment during the mission.

“A few days ago, coalition forces have ceased providing fire support to the [Syrian] Democratic Forces advancing on Manbij,” Sputnik cited the source as saying.

The report, published by The Washington Post earlier in the day and citing US officials familiar with the events, claimed that the coalition’s diversion led to the failure of the rebel offensive.
