The National Bank of Kyrgyzstan officially decreased the som exchange rate by 2.4%, the website of the Bank reports.
When Kazakhstan decided to turn to a free-floating exchange rate of the tenge, the same trend of decreasing the rate emerged in Kyrgyzstan. In private bureaux de change the som exchange rate fell 5% in two days; the official rate decreased on Friday by 0.12% in comparison to the rate on Thursday.
The head of the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan, Tolkunbek Abdygulov, noted that the decrease was caused by speculative acts and promised that the institution would prevent drastic fluctuations of the exchange rate, RIA Novosti reported.
Today the American dollar is being bought for 64 soms by Bishkek’s exchange offices and it is being sold for 64.7 soms. Yesterday the exchange offices demanded 65-67 soms for $1.
