Kyrgyz border guards have reported about the shelling of their citizens by servicemen of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
"An incident between soldiers and citizens of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan took place in the Sary-Kopuro Aksy district of the Jalal-Abad region (Kyrgyzstan), an inconsistent part of the border. According to preliminary information, four Kyrgyz citizens tried to dismantle a water pipe located along the border,’’ Tass cites the representative office.
According to the border guards, Uzbek servicemen demanded these works be stopped, which led to a skirmish. "One citizen of Kyrgyzstan was wounded after the border guards used their weapons. At the moment he is in hospital in the city of Namangan (Uzbekistan), his health condition is considered to be satisfactory," the border guard reported.
Three other people involved in dismantling the pipeline were detained by Kyrgyz border guards.
"Law enforcement officials are carrying out operational-investigative measures against the detainees. It was decided to hold a joint investigation of the incident at a meeting of the border representatives of the two states," the Kyrgyz security forces informed, adding that at the moment they are ‘‘holding negotiations about the return of the wounded" Kyrgyz citizens.
Uzbekistan has not commented on the incident yet.
