The ruling Georgian Dream party candidate Lado Kakhadze won the second round of MP by-elections in the Mtsatsminda district of Tbilisi.
According to the Central Election Commission. Kakhadze has won the race with 61.83%, while Shalva Shavgulidze from the Free Democrats and the European Georgia party won 38.17%.
Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced the results of some of the polling stations late today. He said that although vote counting is still underway, the Georgian Dream candidate is enjoying an overwhelming victory, Agenda.ge reported.
Polls closed at 8 p.m. at 31 polling stations in Georgia where 18,105 voters, accounting for 41.23% of the total number of voters, cast their ballots in today’s runoffs.
The final voter turnout at Mtatsminda district in Tbilisi was 15,049 in the first round of by-elections on May 19, which is 34.27% of eligible voters. Kakhadze received 41.01% of votes in the first round, while Shavgulidze received 36.84%.
