Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that the intention of the US to protect the armed forces of the Syrian opposition from the air is fraught with errors, which could "blow up" the situation in the region and lead to uncontrolled development of events.
"During meetings with US Secretary of State John Kerry we discussed the initiative of the United States, that they will send people, who they trained to fight against IS, they will send them to Syria and will protect them from the air if IS tries to push them. But then they said that if the government troops engage in fightung these armed troops, whom the Americans have prepared, or interfere in their activities, then they will inflict strikes on government forces," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
"I asked, maybe it is easier to negotiate? Sit down and consider all of this with the participation of Syrian army, and these armed forces, and Kurdish groups. It would be nice to also invite the Iraqi Kurds and the Iraqi army. Unfortunately, the Americans are not ready for this," Lavrov stressed.
