Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem will meet in Moscow today. They will discuss the need to launch a direct dialogue between Damascus and the representatives of the Syrian opposition, and the fight against the Islamic State terrorist group in Moscow.
The ministry noted that Anti-government forces, first of all terrorist groups Islamic State and Jabhat al-Nusra, have been lately trying to expand the zone of their influence on Syrian territory.
It is expected that the implementation of the provisions of UN Security Council resolutions by international and regional players will be discussed during the talks.
"The effective elimination of hotbeds of terrorism in Syria is directly linked to the issue of consolidation of the government's actions and constructive forces of the Syrian foreign and domestic opposition," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
In addition, Lavrov and Moallem will exchange views on the outcome of a meeting of the representatives of Syrian opposition groups and civil society in Moscow. "The agenda of the Russian-Syrian talks traditionally includes issues of bilateral relations in various fields, the providing of Russian humanitarian aid to the population of Syria" the Foreign Ministry concluded.
