Russia stands for the preservation of Syria in its current borders, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"We are against a division of Syria,’’ RIA Novosti quotes him as saying.
The minister added that "we need certain provisions within the constitution that would provide more serious, stronger guarantees for ethnic and religious groups in Syria."
"However, there should be no schemes aimed at dividing the country. The Vienna group, ‘Syrian Support Group’ were created to preserve the territorial integrity of Syria," Lavrov said.
According to him, "Syria needs to be a secular state, there should be something like a government of national unity, which would be legitimate, would hold elections and adopt the constitution."
