Russian senators are ready to organize regular joint trips to Syria with European parliament members, Konstantin Kosachev, Chairman of Russia’s Federation Council (upper house of parliament) International Affairs Committee, said on Wednesday during a TV linkup titled "Peaceful future of Syria: a View from Moscow and Brussels", TASS reports.
"Now I would like to extend a formal invitation using TV communication channels to both the participants in today’s TV linkup in Brussels and any of their fellow MEPs who are willing to take part in this visit to Syria together," he said.
Kosachev noted that Russian and European parliamentarians could visit Damascus, Aleppo and other cities together, meet with government officials and opposition members, and talk with civilians. "We are prepared for these types of visits, we are ready to make them on a regular basis," the senator stressed.
Kosachev recalled that the first joint trip by European and Russian lawmakers took place last December. "We hope to arrange our next TV linkup with the participants in this trip," he added.
