Leader of Soviet Armenia Suren Harutyunyan passes away

Today, a Soviet statesman, first secretary of the Communist Party of Armenia Central Committee Suren Harutyunyan, died in Moscow at the age of 81, the press secretary of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, Anna Naghdalyan said.

Suren Harutyunyan was born in September 1939 in Tbilisi. He received the education of a zoo-veterinarian and worked for a long time by profession, but in 1977 he chose a diplomatic path, enrolling in the Diplomatic Academy of the USSR.

He became the first secretary of the Komsomol organization of Armenia, a deputy of the Supreme Council of the Republic, then moved to Moscow, to the apparatus of the CPSU Central Committee.
