Leyla Aliyeva: food security is important factor in ensuring global peace and stability

Food security and rural development are important factors in ensuring peace, stability and sustainability around the world, the vice president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of IDEA Public Union, FAO Goodwill Ambassador Leyla Aliyeva said as she addressed an event marking the World Food Day, which was organized by the IDEA Public Union, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Agriculture and FAO.

Highlighting the importance of the World Food Day, Leyla Aliyeva noted that the existing problems in this area could lead to conflicts, starvation and mass migration.

"Migration should not be mandatory, but voluntary option and states should invest in the development of regions in order to prevent millions of people from leaving their homelands,” FAO Goodwill Ambassador stressed.

The event, organized under the slogan 'Change the future of migration. Invest in food security and rural development', is aimed at determining the impact on production, social tension and equality of migration and remittance flows, improving perceptions of their effects on poverty and food security.

The panel discussions on 'Economics and Politics of Migration: Implications for Agriculture and Food' will be held during the event.
