Lukashevich: Russia plays major role in establishment Karabakh ceasefire

Russia has played a major role in establishing a ceasefire regime in Nagorno-Karabakh, Russia's permanent representative to the OSCE, Alexander Lukashevich, said.

"Under such attention from the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, as well as Russia's leading role in this process, the sides of the conflict understood the futility of hostilities," the diplomat noted.

According to him, "the co-chairs of the peace process must establish it [the truce] and take steps to strengthen confidence and develop the settlement principles, which have been on the negotiating table for a long time."

"It is important to maintain a truce and to urge the parties to negotiate," Lukashevich noted.

Russia's permanent representative to the OSCE said that "it's precisely Russia's large-scale interference that led to the truce in the region."
