Europe needs to increase its investment in defense in order to be prepared for a possible high-intensity armed conflict. Today, this statement was made by French President Emmanuel Macron.
"We must increase investment [in the defense sector] to be prepared for a high intensity war that may come to our continent", the French leader said during the presentation of his electoral program at a rally in Paris.
According to Macron, the French armed forces are the only full-fledged army in Europe today. In this regard, he pointed out that Europe's defense capabilities needed to be strengthened. The head of state added that if he is re-elected in the presidential elections in April 2022, he will instruct the chiefs of military staffs to “reassess all the needs” of the armed forces in the light of the current conflict in Ukraine.
