Russia welcomes a possible intensification of the mediation work of the US co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group in resolving the Karabakh problem, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, said, answering a question from Vestnik Kavkaza.
"There is always something to strive for - this also applies to the increase or intensification of the work of the OSCE Minsk Group. I would not say today that we have a concrete assessment of personal efforts, but the intensification of someone else's efforts will not make it worse," Maria Zakharova stressed.
"Given the complexity of this issue and the fact that it is directly related to the people's lives, it is necessary to wish the OSCE Minsk Group and its co-chairs a further intensification of efforts," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson pointed out.
"Of course, they need to put considerable efforts to move the process forward, and we can only welcome it," Maria Zakharova concluded.
The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also said that the decision to change the US and French co-chairs is ‘a routine rotation’.
“This is a routine rotation of ambassador. We don’t see any political components here. With regard to Igor Popov, as we know, he continues to deal with the issue of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict’s settlement,” she concluded.
