Matviyenko and Burjanadze call for continuation of Russian-Georgian dialogue

Matviyenko and Burjanadze call for continuation of Russian-Georgian dialogue

The speaker of Russia’s Federation Council, Valentina Matviyenko, and the former Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, the leader of the opposition party 'Democratic Movement', Nino Burjanadze, have called for the full restoration of diplomatic relations between Moscow and Tbilisi.

According to Matviyenko, Russia has always been in favor of normalization of Russian-Georgian relations. But Russia is still concerned about some impenetrable position of the Georgian leadership, which does not allow the restoration of full-fledged relations. Matviyenko noted that Georgia is getting closer to NATO, which does not contribute to peace and stability in the Transcaucasus.

Burjanadze also noted the importance of the restoration of full diplomatic relations. According to her, there are no hopeless situations, "through dialogue we will find the way out of this deadlock".
