The chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia, Valentina Matviyenko, hopes that the current situation in Armenia will be resolved peacefully.
“We are closely following the events, and we hope that the issue will be resolved peacefully, by way of negotiations between the authorities and demonstrators,” TASS cited her as saying.
Matviyenko also expressed the hope that the "Armenian authorities will handle the situation, which is Armenia’s internal affair."
She stressed that Armenia is a "friendly country of Russia, a member of the Eurasian Economic Union, and therefore Russia is not apathetic towards what is going on in Armenia."
