Medvedev: The most important thing is to stop the clashes in Karabakh and sit at negotiating table

Russia took part in the settlement of the escalation of the conflict in Karabakh on the basis of the belief that the most important thing is to stop active hostilities and proceed to negotiations, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said.

"You see, after what happened, the most important thing, it seems to me, was to do everything Russia can as a state, an influential state, a state which has partnership and allied relations with both Armenia and Azerbaijan, so that this conflict would not be long, would not move to a permanent stage. Therefore, President [of Russia, Vladimir] Putin, telephoned President [Ilham] Aliyev and President [Serzh] Sargsyan, and demonstrated our position," RIA Novosti cites his interview to the 'Vesti' program.
