Medvedev opposes ground operation in Syria

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev opposes ground operations in Syria.

"I have already answered this question recently, and I want to repeat once again: no one is interested in a new war, and the ground operation is a fully-fledged long war, we should proceed from that," Medvedev said in an interview with Euronews channel, Interfax reports.

At the same time, when asked whether Moscow will continue to support Syrian President Bashar Assad, Medvedev said that "Russia does not support President Assad himself, but maintains friendly relations with the Syrian government, which didn't appear in the period Assad became president."
