Memorial plaque honoring Muslim Magomayev erected in Moscow

Memorial plaque honoring People's Artist of the USSR, singer Muslim Magomayev was erected today in the center of Moscow, in Leontiev Lane, house №14/11 - a place where Muslim Magomayev lived and worked since 1982.

The artist’s extraordinarily wide range of vocal abilities, his unique voice made Muslim Magomayev an idol for many generations. He went down in history not only as a cult representative of the best baritones of the world, but also as a composer, pianist, actor and a man devoted to art.

As Vestnik Kavkaza reported previously, a monument to Muslim Magomayev was revealed on September 22, 2011. It is located in the center of Moscow, near the embassy of Azerbaijan. Its opening ceremony was attended by more than two thousand people.

"Muslim Magomayev was not just a unique phenomenon, he symbolized a peak of the Soviet musical stage," People's Artist of Russia, Honored Artist of Russia Svyatoslav Belza said, speaking at the opening ceremony.

"This is a monument to a man, musician and singer who was called and is called the mega-star of our Soviet stage. Muslim Magomedovich said that Azerbaijan was his father and Russia - his mother. Today we honor this remarkable person and talk about friendship with Azerbaijani people. We are linked by culture and human relations, " Lyudmila Shvetsova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow said.
