During the First Karabakh War, the Armenian occupants actively used mercenaries and thus managed to seize Azerbaijan’s lands and expel civilians living there - old people, women and children. A video of the interrogation of one of these mercenaries, made in 1992, was published on the Internet.
In the video, the man says that while serving in the army, he freely left the unit and agreed to take part in the occupation of Azerbaijan for money. He admits that he planted a mine on a bridge in one of the villages of the Kelbajar region, and frankly describes himself as an adventurer.
