German Chancellor Angela Merkel is in the ranks of debtors. Thus, according to the newspaper Bild am Sonntag, Merkel did not pay dues of her party ‘Christian Democratic Union’ (HDZ) over the past few years. As a result, the amount of her debt became equal to 9.5 thousand euros.
It is assumed that the delay of payments was due to the change of the party’s rules. The amendments, according to which the members of the government are required to pay 6% of their salary and allowances as a special contribution, came into force at the beginning of 2013. Previously the contributions were fixed.
