Merkel to attend Security Conference in Munich

German Chancellor Angela Merkel will attend the 53rd Munich Security Conference, which will be held Feb. 17-19, the MSC press release says.

Thus, Merkel will join the ranks of high-ranking politicians gathered in Munich, responsible for decision-making of an international character.

According to the organizers, this year is characterized by an unusually high number of high-ranking guests of the international level. More than 30 presidents and prime ministers from around the world will arrive in Germany.

Among the topics up for discussion at the conference will be the future of transatlantic relations after electing Donald Trump as US President, the EU cooperation in the field of security and defense, relations with Russia, as well as the crisis in Syria and the situation in East Asia.

It is noteworthy that the press release did not mention the Ukrainian conflict as one of the priority themes of the conference. One can only assume that relations with Russia will be discussed, including in the context of the Ukrainian issue. Vestnik Kavkaza will broadcast live from the sidelines of the 53rd Munich Security Conference.
