Closing the borders inside Europe at a time when the region is going through the migration crisis may lead to negative consequences for the European Union, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said in her weekly video message, which was posted on the government website.
"We must protect our external borders, because we want to keep Schengen. If we cannot protect our external borders, than this free space within the internal market, the basis of our well-being, will be in danger. It is necessary to prevent thus. I believe that all EU member states share this view," TASS quotes her as saying.
