Mesut Ozcan: cooperation between Baku, Ankara and Tbilisi guarantees stability in the region

Development of the South Caucasus region largely depends on strong relations between Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia, head of the Center for Strategic Studies under Turkish Foreign Ministry Mesut Ozcan said in an interview with Vestnik Kavkaza.

"Union between these countries guarantees stability and security of the region and promotes economic growth. Turkey made large investments in Azerbaijan and Georgia after these countries gained independence, it created Council for Cooperation with both states, thus laying foundation for strategic partnership. Our main goals today - facilitate trade ties and abolish visas," he said.

According to the expert, current agenda between Baku, Ankara and Tbilisi includes development of energy and transport projects.

"The more we strengthen cooperation in this area, the more confident we can talk about security of our countries. This is the main condition for future development of the region," he stressed.

He also noted that Turkey's relations with Russia also play a big role in security situation in the region. "Turkey has done a lot to overcome negative consequences in relations with Russia, but so far they are far from ideal. I think that after some time our relations will be the same as before," he concluded.
