'Military Commonwealth 2015' exercises start in CIS

"The first stage of the military exercises of the Joint Air Defence System of the CIS 'Military Commonwealth 2015' have started, the Russian Defense Ministry reported today. In particular, troops of air and missile defense aerospace forces in Podmoskovye are at the highest degree of readiness. Three-stage training will last till September 11."

"In total, joint exercises of the armed forces of the CIS member-states united air defense system will involve more than one thousand soldiers and more than 200 units of military and special equipment of aerospace forces, including the anti-aircraft missile system S-400 "Triumph", S-300 "Favorite", as well as MiG-29, Su-24, Su-34, Su-27, Su-30, Su-25, MiG-31 and Tu-22 aircraft, Mi-8AMTSh helicopters and other vehicles," the Ministry of Defence reports.

Air defense forces of armies of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia are the participants of these exercises. Other members of the joint air defense system of the CIS have observer status in the exercises 'Military Commonwealth 2015'.

A military observer of TASS, retired colonel Viktor Litovkin in conversation with a correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza stressed the importance of joint exercises. "The soldiers in these countries are learning to work in a single information space, coordinating their actions on the borders, tasks, time. The thing is that all military actions, especially against a serious opponent, start with air strikes, in the long term even with cosmic strikes. Therefore, the coordination of the borders of the CIS to the center of Russia with all of our allies on Collective Security Treaty Organization are vital in terms of information and intelligence during organization of air and missile defense," he stated.
