Minibus carrying migrants crashes in Turkey’s Hatay

A minibus carrying migrants has crashed into a truck in the Altinozu district of the southern Turkish province of Hatay, killing 11 people.

Gendarmerie teams reportedly attempted to stop the minibus carrying the migrants who had illegally crossed into the country from Syria. However, the driver reportedly did not heed the call and accelerated after panicking.

The driver ultimately lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a truck coming from the opposite direction, Dogan News Agency reported.

Eleven migrants immediately died at the scene, while another nine, including the driver, were wounded. They were rushed to hospitals.

Gendarmerie officials have launched an investigation into the accident.
