Uzbekistan may adopt amendments to the Constitution allowing current President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to be re-elected for a third term.

Presidential elections were held in Uzbekistan in October, 2021. Shavkat Mirziyoyev first became the country's President in the 2016 snap election.

Uzbekistan's nationwide referendum on constitutional amendments will be held on April 30. What is known is that 65% of the text of the existing constitution will be changed to some or lesser extent.

The new constitution will have 155 articles instead of the current 128. The number of constitutional norms will also be increased from 275 to 434.
