The European Union’s foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, has arrived in Tehran on an official visit. She will hold talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, and a number of other representatives of the Iranian authorities to discuss the implementation of the agreement on the Iranian nuclear program.
"The visit will provide an opportunity for exchanges on the implementation of the agreement, on which the High Representative will continue to play a coordinating role, and on regional and bilateral issues," TASS cited the statement of the Foreign Service of the European Union.
But according to her, "this is not just about IS. The whole Middle East is in turmoil. We need to restart political processes to end wars. We need to get all the regional powers back to the negotiating table and stop the carnage," Mogherini noted.
"Cooperation between Iran, its neighbors and the whole international community could open unprecedented possibilities for peace in the region, starting from Syria, Yemen and Iraq," the EU foreign policy chief believes.
"The sceptics will argue this is very unlikely, or impossible. The pessimists will warn of the dangers. The negotiations in Vienna showed no brain-teaser is too hard to solve, as long as there is the political will to overcome the difficulties," Mogherini reminded.
