One of the policy priorities of Iran is strengthening relations with neighboring countries and development of mutually beneficial cooperation, Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mohsen Pakayin said in connection with the beginning of the Week of the State in the Islamic Republic.
He stressed that the development of relations between Iran and Azerbaijan is an example for the neighboring countries. According to Pakayina, the diplomatic corps solved some problems that could affect the positive development of relations between Baku and Tehran, and it managed to create a stable atmosphere of trust using the existing potential.
The diplomat also noted that the Caucasus region has strategic importance, so close relations between Iran and Azerbaijan are one of the achievements of President Hassan Rouhani’s government.
According to Pakayin, during the last two years a top priority for the Iranian diplomats were discussions on the nuclear program. In addition, a basis was formed for the development of political, cultural and economic relations with neighboring countries, including Azerbaijan.
In addition, the ambassador pointed out that in the last two years bilateral economic relations have been a priority that contributed to the growth of trade between the two countries in the oil sector.
‘‘The organization of mutual visits of officials of the two countries shows that Azerbaijan and Iran are interested in the development of bilateral relations. Along with mutual benefit and strengthening stability in the region it can lead to the transformation of the countries into strategic allies,’’ he said.
"Iran and Azerbaijan have good economic relations. In addition, our country can become a guarantor of peace and stability in the region by means of developing and implementing programs in order to eliminate existing threats," the diplomat noted.
The goal of the Week of the State in Iran is to honor the memory of those who were killed in the suicide attack on August 30th 1981 in the Office of the Prime Minister of Iran President Mohammad Ali Rajai and Prime Minister Mohammad Javad Bahonar, Trend recalls.
