According to the UN, more than 12 million people need humanitarian aid in Syria.
The armed conflict is in its fifth year, the spokesman for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Jens Lerke, noted.
"The humanitarian needs in Syria have increased twelve-fold since the beginning of the conflict, which has continued into its fifth year and led to the fact that 12.2 million people need humanitarian aid, including 5.6 million children," he concluded.
