More than half of Armenians are malnourished

More than half of the Armenian population is suffering from malnutrition.

According to the Ministry of Health of the Republic, the daily ration of a person should be 2412 calories. This is below the standards adopted in developed countries, where it is equal to 2700 calories. However, this figure is not achievable in Armenia.

In 2011, 55.5% of the population of the republic consumed less than 2100 calories daily. In 2012 this figure dropped to 52.9%, but in 2013 increased again to 59.2%. It is noted that urban dwellers also suffer from malnutrition, 60.5% of whom consume less then 2100 kcal daily.

Data for the past year has not been announced yet, however, as the newspaper Aravot notes, given the current economic situation in the country, improvement of the situation should not be expected.
