A new mosque built to accommodate 3500 worshippers was opened yesterday in the Makhachkala suburb of Separatorny. The mosque, which received the name of Abdulhamid Afandi from Inkho, was built on the initiative of the Dagestani Mufti, Sheikh Ahmad Haji Abdulaev.
According to the RIA Dagestan news agency, the head of the republic, Ramadan Abdullatipov, participated in the opening ceremony of the mosque. In his speech he drew attention to the caring attitude of the Russian authorities towards Islam and gifted a Koran over two centuries old to the mosque.
