NATO buildup in East Europe contradicts Russia-NATO Founding Act, Grushko says

Russia's Envoy to NATO Alexander Grushko said that efforts aimed at strengthening NATO military presence in eastern Europe contradict the Founding Act as military buildup significantly changes the military-political situation and the balance of forces in region, Sputnik reports.

"Of course, these efforts contradict the Founding Act as this military buildup significantly changes the military-political situation and the balance of forces [in Eastern Europe], Grushko reiterated in an interview with Rossiya 24 television.

According to Grushko, NATO's plans to deploy four multinational battalions of about 1,000 troops each in Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania and Poland undermine security in the region and threaten Russia.
