NATO considers holding meeting at request of Sweden, Finland in March

The NATO Secretary General confirmed plans to hold a trilateral meeting with Sweden, Finland and Türkiye on the bids of the two Nordic countries to join the alliance. The meeting will take place in mid-March.

A trilateral meeting on the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO may take place in early spring, Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, announced today.

He recalled that last week he met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The parties reached an agreement to resume negotiations. In addition, the Turkish leader agreed to hold a meeting in mid-March at NATO headquarters on the implementation of the deal, which was formalized last year by Stockholm, Helsinki, and Ankara.
