NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated that the alliance "does not seek a new confrontation with Russia and does not want a new Cold War", so all the actions of the organization are proportional and they are taken on the basis of defense purposes.
"We remain aimed at co-operation and constructive relations with Russia. That is why we have kept the channels of political dialogue open and continue dialogue in different formats and at different levels with Russia," TASS quoted Stoltenberg as saying.
However, the increase of the military presence along the borders of NATO and Russia requires "to make efforts to reduce the risks, predictability and transparency of military activity."
