The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has commented on recognition of the 'independence' of the Nagorno-Karabakh region by the US State of Georgia.
The official representative of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Hikmet Hajiyev, said that Nagorno-Karabakh is an Azerbaijani territory occupied by Armenia and that, according to US law, the recognition of any territorial entity is under the powers of the US Federal Government.
"After a 15-minute discussion, the House of Representatives of the State of Georgia adopted some sort of a resolution on the alleged 'recognition' of a regime created on the territory of Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh region occupied by Armenia. The US recognizes Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty within the internationally recognized borders," Trend cited Hajiyev as saying.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry believes that such actions undermine the peace process, which is based on international norms and the principles of the UN Security Council resolution.
