A National Guard has been created in Russia on the basis of Interior Ministry troops, it was announced today at a meeting with Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, the head of the Federal Drug Control Service Viktor Ivanov and Commander of the Internal Troops of the Interior Ministry, Viktor Zolotov, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated.
He stressed that the new federal executive body will be engaged in the fight against terrorism, organized crime and it will continue to perform the functions of riot police and SWAT, RIA Novosti reports.
