Nazarbayev about changes to Constitution on delegation of powers

Amendments to delegate some of presidential powers to the nation's parliament and cabinet will be made to the Constitution, the Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said at meeting on the redistribution of powers between the president, government and parliament.

As much as 35 amendments will be made, the president noted.

He noted that Kazakhstan will stick to Presidential republic, however, the amendments will make government system more flexible to meet the requirements of the time, Trend reported.

Nazarbayev reminded that in line with Kazakh law, the constitution could be amended through referendum and by the parliament and the president makes the final decision.

The President stressed the need for redistribution of powers between the president, government and parliament in December 2016 at a ceremonial meeting on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s independence.
