Nazarbayev: disunity of international community plays into terrorists' hands

The disunity of the international community's actions in the fight against Daesh is playing into the hands of terrorists, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said at a meeting with the heads of foreign diplomatic missions.

"Today the fate of the whole world, without any exaggeration, is being decided in the Middle East," he stressed. Nazarbayev said that the conflict in Syria "has negative consequences far beyond the region" and "it's the world's biggest refugee crisis since the Second World War."

According to him, "the disunity of the international community in the fight against Daesh is playing into the hands of terrorists." "That's why I proposed creating a unified global unit to counter international terrorism and extremism under the auspices of the UN. We will not succeed unless all nations are united in this fight," TASS cited Nazarbayev as saying.

He stressed that Kazakhstan "welcomes the agreement reached by Russia and United States for a cessation of hostilities in Syria."
