Netanyahu mending ties with Trump ahead of U.S. elections

Years of efforts by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to mend relations with Donals Trump may have shown some progress in the wake of the assassination attempt against the former U.S. President.

Netanyahu allies have met with Trump on at least four occasions over the past three years to try to repair ties, which deteriorated after Netanyahu congratulated Biden for his victory in the 2020 election.

In 2021, Trump accused Netanyahu of disloyalty for accepting Biden's win rather than backing his fraud claims despite all he'd done for Israel and Netanyahu personally.

"I haven't spoken to him since," Trump said.

Netanyahu was one of the first world leaders to issue a statement condemning the assassination attempt against Trump, and followed up with at least three additional statements and social media posts expressing solidarity.

"Like all Israelis, my wife Sara and I were shocked by the horrific assassination attempt on the life of President Donald Trump," Netanyahu said in his video message.
