Nikol Pashinyan: It's all my fault, but ...

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan today pleaded guilty for the resumption of the Karabakh war, which led to thousands of losses on both sides, and said that he was ready to appear before the people's court. At the same time, he stressed he wants a number of specific conditions in such a case.

"I am the number-one official who is responsible for what happened. There is no misinterpretation here. I also realize that due to this fact, as well as due to my previous activities, I shall stand before the judgment of our people. But in order for the judge - the people - to be able to come to conclusions in this case, he must know all the circumstances of the case, there must be a conversation, listening to the same soldiers, the opposition, the government," he said during an online press conference, Sputnik Armenia reports.

He explained that he was trying to change the logic of the Karabakh talks, which in May 2018 came to the "territories for nothing" formula. "We tried to change this logic. I tried to increase our resistance, but we did not succeed,  because we faced a situation of an international consensus that the territories must be handed over to Azerbaijan without any precondition. We could not change this consensus. Maybe we misjudged the situation. But what could we do? Get used to it? I didn’t want to, so I tried to do everything possible to increase Armenia’s combat capability," Pashinyan said.

On November 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint statement on a complete ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh. The Russian leader said the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides would remain on the positions they hold and Russian peacekeepers would be deployed to the region. Besides, Armenia and Azerbaijan should carry out the exchange of prisoners of war and the bodies of those killed. Aghdam region will be returned to Azerbaijan before November 20, Kelbajar region - before November 15, Lachin region - before December 1.
