Nino Burjanadze: I see a peaceful and prosperous Caucasus in future

The future of the Caucasus should be peaceful, prosperous, democratic and calm, the leader of the Democratic Movement Party of Georgia, Nino Burjanadze, told Vestnik Kavkaza on the sidelines of the international round table 'Topical international legal problems of the XXI century' in Moscow, where she attended at the invitation of State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin.

"I hope that we can make the Caucasus develop normally, without shocks. But it is difficult, and it is necessary to work very hard in this direction," Burjanadze said.

According to her, the current level of relations between Russia and Georgia is "completely insufficient to even evaluate them as normal." "There is some warming, but this is the least which could be done in the two years that have passed since the elections and the change of power in Georgia," the leader of the Democratic Movement Party of Georgia said.

The international round table 'Topical international legal problems of the XXI century' is being held today in the mansion of the Russian Foreign Ministry. It was organized by the State Duma and the Foreign Ministry with the participation of Institute of Europe of the RAS, the A.M. Gorchakov Fund for Support of Public Diplomacy, the Kutafin Moscow State Law University and the Russian Historical Society.

The meeting will be attended by the parliamentarians, jurists, experts, human rights activists and government officials from more than 20 countries (including Germany, Georgia, Italy, Canada, the US, Turkey, France, Switzerland, Sweden, and the CIS countries).
