Nino Lomjaria will perform the duties of the Auditor General of Georgia. The powers of the current head of the State Audit Service Lasha Tordia expire today. Lomjaria has been first deputy general since November 2016.
"According to the law, before the appointment of a new head, Nino Lomjaria will act as general auditor," Sputnik-Georgia cited the spokesperson as saying.
The candidacy of a new general auditor should be submitted by the parliamentary majority, and then it will be approved by the parliament.
According to media reports, the current Mayor of Tbilisi David Narmania, deputy from the Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia ruling party Vano Zardiashvili or former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili are candidates for this position.
