The erection of the bronze monument to Nizami Ganjavi, the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker of the Middle Ages, is planned in Derbent, in the park named after him, the head of the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of Derbent, Isa Magomedov, said, specifying that the relevant work will start this year. “It is planned to erect the monument in 2020,” TASS quotes him as saying.
The authorities of Derbent held a competition for the best project of the monument, the sculptor from Makhachkala won the contest, Magomedov said. He proposed a sketch of the monument, where the poet is depicted sitting with paper and a pen in his hands, the head of the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning explained.
