In recent weeks, the situation on the Georgian Military Road ‘Verkhny Lars’ (the highway that links Russia and Georgia) remained calm. The repair works are still going on and Georgian authorities do not say when they will be finished.
The Lars checkpoint is open from 4:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
At the same time the Russian side has managed to perfect a temporary schedule of operations. According to the press service of EMERCOM in North Ossetia, 100 vehicles from Russia cross the border every day.
"Just the other day we were there and interviewed drivers of passenger cars. They said that they waited in line for about 15 minutes. It means that the system is perfect. The checkpoint also works from 4:30 AM to 6:00 PM. It is closed only at night to guarantee safety,’’ the press-service reported.
According to the Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, the date when the Georgian Military Road will begin operating round-the-clock is still undetermined despite some sources mentioning the end of August.
