The 13th summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will be held under the theme 'Unity and Solidarity for Justice and Peace' in Istanbul on April 13-14. It will be attended by representatives of 56 states, including 33 states at the level of presidents and prime ministers.
"Turkey will assume take over the OIC presidency during this summit and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will serve as the President of the summit for the next 2 years," the Presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said.
"24 countries will be represented at this summit by their heads of state, 9 countries by their heads of government, 6 countries by their parliament speakers and vice presidents, 12 countries by their ministers, 2 countries by their undersecretaries, 3 countries by their ambassadors," Kalin noted.
A resolution on the Palestinian issue and support for international efforts to re-launch a 'collective political process' will be issued at the end of the summit, Press TV reports.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev have announced a joint declaration on Wednesday, calling the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states to support Islamic convergence.
The First Ladies' Leadership on Cancer Control in the OIC Member States will be held on the sidelines of the summit and a formal declaration will be released on the issue, Daily Sabah reports.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev held a meeting on the eve of the summit. In addition, Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko combined their official visits to Turkey with the OIC summit.
The organization was founded in September 1969 for Islamic social, economic and political solidarity. It has 57 members. Russia has been an observer since 2005.
