US President Barack Obama stated that Russia's actions in Syria and support for the government of Bashar Assad will not change the US strategy in the fight against the Islamic State terrorist organization in this country.
According to him, Russia's actions will not change the main strategy of the United States, which consists of putting pressure on IS in Iraq and Syria. He also stressed that, despite the disagreements with Russia on issues such as Ukraine, the fight against terrorism is a potential common interest of the two countries, RIA Novosti reported.
In addition, he drew attention to the fact that the issues of a Syrian settlement will be a subject of long discussions with Russia, but they will not interfere with the fight against the Islamic State militants.
The US President reaffirmed that Washington hopes for a political settlement in Syria through political negotiations.
