Yesterday, Pope Francis opened his first visit to the United States to hold services in several churches and meet with President Barack Obama.
The Catholic leader was welcomed by Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. The official welcoming ceremony will be held on September 23, TASS reports.
Pope Francis and Obama will discuss the fight against poverty, climate change and issues of war and peace, including the situation in the Middle East. "We consult with the Church very closely about how we can protect religious minorities in some of these war zones," the US president said.
