US President Barack Obama discussed the agreement on Iran's nuclear program reached in Vienna during a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
"President Obama thanked President Putin for Russia’s important role in achieving this milestone, the culmination of nearly 20 months of intense negotiations," the press service of the White House said.
They affirmed that the JCPOA represents "a historic solution that will verifiably prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon by "cutting off all of the pathways to a bomb while ensuring the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program going forward."
Putin and Obama committed to remain in close coordination and also "expressed a desire to work together on reducing regional tensions, particularly in Syria," TASS reports.
Earlier, the Kremlin press service informed that the presidents of Russia and the United States highly appreciated the outcome of the negotiations on a settlement of the situation around the Iranian nuclear program.
